چکیده

Abstract Understanding the spatial variation in species richness and mechanisms that limit range sizes along geographical gradients belong to central research issues macroecology. Here, we aim test topographic climatic effects on anuran community composition mountainous regions Brazilian Atlantic Forest biome. We used Individual‐Based Rarefaction Curve (interpolation extrapolation), Generalized Additive Model (GAM), Midpoint method Principal Coordinates Analysis (PCoA) analyze composition, richness, a global biodiversity hotspot. Our results showed altitude annual mean temperature seasonality were main drivers of altitudinal assembly regions. In conclusion, Anuran peaked at intermediate altitudes following thus hump‐shaped pattern corroborated Rapoport's rule as increased with from This study revealed new insights into patterns Neotropical communities. High Altitude Mountain Sickness

Its probable first account has been given by Plutarch in his comments on Alexander’s invasion of India: “Many then were the dangers— but the greatest harm came from severity of weathers”. Similarly, a Chinese record mentions of “Lesser Headache Mountains” and the “Greater Headache Mountains” where men’s bodies become feverish, they lose color and are attacked with headache, dizziness and vomiti...

Lowland extirpation of anuran populations on a tropical mountain

Background Climate change and infectious diseases threaten animal and plant species, even in natural and protected areas. To cope with these changes, species may acclimate, adapt, move or decline. Here, we test for shifts in anuran distributions in the Luquillo Mountains (LM), a tropical montane forest in Puerto Rico by comparing species distributions from historical (1931-1989)and current data...

Growth-Mark Formation and Chronology of Two Neotropical Anuran Species

—In amphibians from tropical or subtropical regions well-expressed growth marks in bone could be expected because of the existence of strong dry/wet seasons, but little evidence is available. Additionally, temporal patterns of growth-mark formation may be a function of genetic and environmental factors. We used skeletochronology and a laboratory experiment to tease apart both causal sources, es...

Opposing assembly mechanisms in a neotropical dry forest: implications for phylogenetic and functional community ecology.

Species diversity is promoted and maintained by ecological and evolutionary processes operating on species attributes through space and time. The degree to which variability in species function regulates distribution and promotes coexistence of species has been debated. Previous work has attempted to quantify the relative importance of species function by using phylogenetic relatedness as a pro...

High-altitude headache and acute mountain sickness.

INTRODUCTION Headache is the most common complication associated with exposure to high altitude, and can appear as an isolated high-altitude headache (HAH) or in conjunction with acute mountain sickness (AMS). The purpose of this article is to review several aspects related to diagnosis and treatment of HAH. DEVELOPMENT HAH occurs in 80% of all individuals at altitudes higher than 3000 meters...
